Cottage Street runs north from near Manning Road to the corner of Eliot Street and Bolton Road in the Nutting Lake section, crossing Reardon Road and Fuller Road. It is named for the summer cottages for which Nuttings Lake Park was laid out. It first appears on "Nuttings Lake Park Extension, Plan E," drawn in May 1915 by C. A. Thayer, engineer, of Providence, Rhode Island, and recorded April 14, 1916 (Plan Book 33, Plan 46), running from Lenox Street (now Fuller Road) north to Eliot Street at Bolton Road. Plan G of December 1916 (Plan Book 35, Plan 76) carried it south past School and Winter Streets to Wilson Street.
The annual meeting of 1939 voted "to accept Cottage Street as per drawing submitted," and on October 28, 1946 a special town meeting accepted its laying out with the other Nutting Lake streets and voted money for water mains on it; the town's list of accepted streets gives "Cottage St. 2-11-39 -- 10-28-46."
An article of 1951 "to gravel and tar Cottage Street, a distance of 375 feet" was referred to the selectmen, and in 1952 the Department of Public Works reported Cottage Street "Graveled, asphalt penetration and seal applied and two catch basins installed," its first hard surface on record. It was sealed again in 1969. In the fall of 2001 the town was asked to accept "Cottage St Fuller Rd to Dead End," 745 feet, as a public way, but that article was dismissed. Cottage Street was repaved in fiscal 2003. It is not one of the roads of the 1831 map accepted in 2016.
